Who are you and what is your current job role? I’m Helene Williamson, the head of resourcing for BMI Healthcare. How did you get to this position…what was the pathway and what did you do before? I started my career as an entrepreneur and head-hunter, eventually moving to my first in-house role at broadcaster BSkyB, which was a brilliant introduction to commercial, fast-paced HR. I then moved to fashion retailer Monsoon Accessorize as their head of resourcing, and then came to work in private healthcare for BMI a few months ago. What are the challenges in this job? My role is to seek out great talent for BMI Healthcare, from all different backgrounds and using lots of different attraction and approach strategies. An ongoing challenge in my role (and especially as a relative “new kid” at BMI Healthcare) is making great matches between candidates, hiring managers and roles. It can mean long hours and juggling lots of different roles and tasks – but there is nothing like the thrill of seeing someone you recruited go on to do brilliantly in your organisation: in that sense, to be able to do my job is an enormous privilege. Who has influenced you the most in your career and why? This is a tricky one – I’ve worked with some really inspiring people and not sure I could pick out just one, as I’ve learnt things from all of them. What do you do to switch off? I have two gorgeous sausage dogs that always need walking! How important is social media to the future of your business and how are you embracing it? Social media has changed in-house recruitment for ever – I’m a huge fan of LinkedIn for direct sourcing, and of Twitter and Facebook as brand-building tools.
